New Moon 2023 FW13: New research keeps coming about our solar system every day. Recently, scientists have discovered a new asteroid, which is revolving around the Sun at the same speed as the Earth. This asteroid has been named 2023 FW13. Scientists have called this asteroid a half-moon or half satellite, because this asteroid is revolving around the Sun in the same time frame as the Earth. Currently, scientists have found that this asteroid is under the stress of Earth’s gravity. This 15 meter diameter asteroid is present at a distance of about 1.4 crore kilometers from the Earth.
Scientists saw this moon for the first time on 28 March 2023 with the help of a telescope. The telescope was placed on top of an inactive volcano on the island of Hawaii. Apart from the aerial telescopes of Canada and France, two observatories in Arizona have also confirmed the existence of this asteroid. On April 1, the Minor Planet Center at the International Astronomical Union listed this planet. This organization is responsible for listing all the planets and objects found in our solar system.
Asteroid is revolving around the Sun at the speed of Earth
To learn more about 2023 FW13, astronomer Adrian Coffinet mapped its path using an orbit simulator. This simulator was developed by astronomer Tony Dunn. This research revealed that this asteroid is orbiting the Sun at the same speed as the Earth. Although this planet is also orbiting the Earth, Coffinet has named it as a half-moon. Scientists have estimated that this asteroid has been orbiting the Earth since at least 100 BC.
Asteroid hovering close to Earth
According to scientists, even though this asteroid is orbiting the Earth along with the Sun, there is no possibility of it colliding with the Earth. At present, scientists have believed that it is hovering very close to the Earth and it is the longest semi-satellite of the Earth known so far.
